It has been an adventurous year for Little Homes Lifestyle. Every day we strive to help those down on their luck around us which started small and have only grown into something bigger and will continue to grow as more time passes. We started last fall and winter with baggies full of socks, hats, and gloves to keep people warm. We then did an event at the beginning of this year partnering with anonymous donors at Bushnell Park. Currently we have partnered with donors who have generously donated food for us to hand out and to give to local shelters on our weekly Shelter Runs. We also continue to hold our monthly events in which we hand out hygiene products, snacks and goodies, waters, and now masks!! When we did our first event in Bushnell Park there were so many extra goodies that we decided to call around and find a local shelter we could donate the extras to.
Ashlei and myself brought the multiple boxes of goodies to a local church shelter in Hartford. When bringing everything together, the smiles and warm feelings we got from the people in there was enough to warm us from the cold day but brought warmth and compassion to our hearts. We could see that our small gesture meant the world to them and that was when the idea was born to continue doing something like that for those. Whether it be shelters or homeless on the streets, we made a promise to bring happiness and warmth to anyone we could. At that moment the idea for shelter run’s was born. That day and those feelings taught us so much more than just appreciation. It taught us that people down on their luck have more appreciation for the little things in life and don’t take anything for granted
Conclusion
One thing Little Homes has taught me is that we’re not just a team, we were a family. We will go out of our way to make sure those around us feel included and loved. We go above and beyond to those around but we are not doing it for us. We’re not making those goodie bags for our own benefit or collecting donations to make ourselves look good; we do this to bridge the gap in the world between those down on their luck and those who have everything they need in life right at their fingertips. For years and still to this day those who are up on their luck look down at those who are down on their luck as if it’s a disease and they choose it. We are here to inform those what the real reason is and to educate them.
