Location: South on Green Bernard Park in Hartford, CT
Day Before the Event:
Unfortunately due to space and time restraints for the next day, as we were short on help, we were unable to do the weekly donations pick-up from Panera. We were saddened by this because we always try to make sure that we spread any and all donations we have received with the shelters and due to us not having the extra help this week we were unable to do a big part of our weekly mission. Nevertheless, we will resume this upcoming weekend.
If you know of anyone who would like to volunteer or knows of any locations that would like to donate any items or goods please let us know.
Day of the Park Event:
On this day we were also a bit short on time in the morning, but we made it work. It was down to Abigail and Ashlei to do the set-up and the giveaway of the care packages.
The care packs had: toothbrushes, toothpaste, tooth floss, shavers, shampoo, soap, deodorants, ear swabs, candy, a handmade message, and masks. As a special treat, we added water and extra candy to our table. We were very surprised and happy to find out that the extra candy was a hit as it was sour candy. We will make sure to include this next time. We were also glad we brought water as the day was really hot and humid and they were very happy that we had cold water. We don’t typically go through 2 sets of water but we did due to the weather. It was also good because we were the only ones in the park on this day.
We also had some of our female care packs with us this time as well. This time was a bit special as they also had handmade scrunchies that were donated to us. They really loved this special extra thought and we will make sure to also add this into our next batch.
While Ashlei stayed at the table assisting the many that came over to us, Abigail set to do a small park clean-up. We are making sure that when we go to the park we always try to help it look and stay clean. We strongly encourage others to do the same.
Overall it was a great day to meet new people, strengthen the connections to the community and enjoy the weather before it began to rain.
Until our next event,
Stay Safe. Stay H.O.P.E.F.U.L!
