06/06/21 Park Clean-up/Planting Event

Location: South on Green Bernard Park, Hartford CT

This blog will be a bit different than most. This will serve as an update on a rescheduled event we had Originally for 06/05/21, which was postponed due to the Puerto Rican parade for 06/19/21, but ultimately did happen on 06/06/21.

Was that a bit confusing? We do apologize, but we also understand as we were the same.

The event was a collaboration with the Peace Center of CT, Moms Demand Action, and Little Homes Lifestyle to do a 3 part event. This was to Clean up the park, plant some nice flowers near the seating areas, and pass out some essentials care bags with items donated by all 3 groups. Due to the parade, on Saturday morning we had decided to postpone the event due to safety issues. After confirmation was received that the area would be too chaotic if we were to hold the event there, it was to be held on 06/19/21. This would enable us to be present and all who had originally wanted to help plant and clean-up the park could join. As the day progressed and we held our second event at the Beach, we also received some updates on the event for the park clean-up.

It was decided, that due to the state of the plants that were donated by Knox, it would be best if we could at least plant them the next day. Therefore making this event smaller and focused on planting in order to save them. As the final times and preparations were being made, we decided a small group would be the best solution in such a short time span.

Sunday Morning, at 8 am we were all at the park ready to go. It was great to finally be able to meet and interact with the Mom’s Demand Action group. Not only did we get to meet them but also be a part of an event that also included the Peace Center.

We started with cleaning the areas in the park we could see while we planned how to start planting, since we knew that was the purpose of that day. Once we decided on a location, it was brought to our attention that the area we had chosen was not the greatest, due to rodents, therefore we switched to a safer area next to 2 trees that were next to the sitting area.

With this ready to go, we divided a conquered. Successfully planting 9 plants on one side and 10 on the other. With the help of the water access granted by the South Park Inn, we made sure they were all watered and healthy. Once we were done, it great to know that they voiced how happy they were that some more life was being brought to the park and that it showed many still cared for the area. Although it wasn’t the event we had originally envisioned, it was an amazing opportunity to share where we, as Little Homes Lifestyle, most often go to help the people in the area. It gave not only our organization a chance to give back but also the other organizations a chance to meet them as well.

Although we have no concrete plans for future events, we do know that you will see all 3 of our organizations together again sooner than you think.

Until our Next Official Park Event on 06/19/21,

Stay Safe! Stay H.O.P.E.F.U.L!
