Locations: Cornerstone Foundation Soup kitchen, South Park Inn, Saint Elizabeth House & Friendship Center
We are here today with our latest adventures.
Day Before the Event
Around 8:30 p.m. on Friday night, 02/19/21, Ashlei, Abigail, and I (Katie) gathered into our vehicles and headed to Dunkin to start collecting what would be given as donations on Saturday morning along with the frozen food donations we were collecting as well. The collected items totaled 4 boxes of frozen food, and 281 sweet treats (this count includes the donut holes as well). It was great to know the food that was gathered was not going to go to waste.
Unfortunately, this weekend we had planned to have an outreach event with help from the South Park Inn shelter, but due to covid restrictions, we were unable to. Our 1st Outreach event turned into another weekly shelter run instead. Nevertheless, we were really excited because as stated above we were able to donate 4 boxes of frozen food in addition to the sweet treats we take on a weekly basis. It was a new addition and also a new learning experience for us as well as we are all still adjusting.
Day of the Event
On Saturday morning, 02/20/21, we all met out in Vernon, CT, and headed to our first stop which was the Cornerstone Foundation Soup Kitchen in Vernon CT, which has now turned into one of our weekly donation spots. They are accepting any frozen or canned goods as well as treats and donations; if you have anything you would like to donate please contact us! From there, we made a detour to our go-to breakfast spot and jumped on the highway to head towards Hartford and make our way to our first stop in Hartford which was the South Park Inn. It is always nice to meet everyone there and we had the pleasure of meeting someone this week we haven’t before. Although we did not have a full conversation with them, we are happy we got to meet more people of their staff. From South Park Inn we headed to Saint Elizabeth House and Friendship Center. We donated some frozen food as well as sweet treats to all of the three locations and will be continuing to gather a list of what is needed.
Until our next event on 02/27/21, we hope to learn more and find new ways to help. Stay Safe! Stay H.O.P.E.F.U.L!
